Right now I have a simple application where I have to move a screwdriver to different positions on a 1-axe system using simple digital I/O. I was wondering which programming mode fits better motion control, sequential or state machine? Or something else? BR Attila

For long, cyclic task i'd prefer a seqential control. For short application, such as simple discrete 1-axis (or up-down) motion I prefer to use simple STL with binary logic instructions using limit-switshes and up-down outputs of PLC. Hope it helps

BR Attila Hi Kahl, if you have to program linear-axes, they often come with a driver program for S7 (most suppliers provide such drivers) and you will simply use the driver program by calling it from your program. So the decision is already made for the most critical part. Weatheryou program sequential or state machine is more or less your personal taste. regards

I've read on the forum that one general mistake in motion control programs (digital) is to check the "Motion complete" signal right when the "Start moving" command is issued. That is why I tought that a programming style could fit well with motion control.
