Help Loading NC/PLC data into 810M GA3

mlewisnachi Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	We have an older 810M GA3 that the batteries died in. I have replaced the batteries, located the TEA,TEA2,etc files, and am attempting to use PCIN4.2 to transfer the data to the controller. We are using a laptop running XP SP2, and have tried using 2 different PCI to serial adapter cards, and a USB to serial adapter. My issue is that when I initiate the transfer in PCIN, nothing happens. I have checked the Serial port settings, and they match with what is in PCIN, and what I am putting into the machine in the 5010,5011 and 5016 positions based on the Siemens document "810/820 Service Course: How to reload your NC?". I am at a loss here of how to proceed to get the data to transfer into the NC. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, -Michael

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, PCIN is a dos based program. I doubt if it recognises drivers for pci or usb hardware. You need a windows based program. Pee

mlewisnachi Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	With both serial adapters, a COM1 port was shown in device manager, and PCIN was not showing the "no COM1 device" detected error when starting up, but I am not sure if that is relevant. What windows based program would you recommend to send the information over RS232?

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, Siemens Winpcin works fine with usb adaptors. Anything that can squirt a file out of a serial port without adding characters will do. If you want to investigate further then a free program called termite is great for checking serial I/O Pee

mlewisnachi Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	I found a copy of WinPCIN but still have not had any luck getting data to upload. WinPCIN sits there at 0Bytes sent. I am following the 810/820 service course document to the letter, and am in intital clear mode but it still does not want to send my data to the machine I am using the following settings: Baud Rate: 9600 Parity: Even StopBits: 2 DataBits: 7 Flow Control: Hardware Machine settings: 5010: 00000000 5011:11000111 5013:11000111 5016:00101000

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, I gave up on hardware control with anything other than a hardwired serial port. Slow the baud rate down to 300 (slow i know) and select software/control chars in winpcin. It might work faster on GA3. Pee

My other concern is that we are using a 9pin to 25pin cable, and I am not sure if the pinout is correct on a standard cable. Should a standard 9 to 25 cable work?

Something else I just thought of is to make sure you are in the correct port on the 810. Sometimes the conector at the front is plugged into the wrong connector at the back. (2 ports available) Pee

mlewisnachi Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Pee, Changing to a software handshake, with the 9600 settings, allowed WinPCIN to show data transfer, but I still don't think I got all my data into the machine. Nothing showed up in the "Data Type:" section of the screen on the Data In/Out page. I will try the 300 buad rate and see what happens. I think the connections are correct because if I press the start softkey twice, it says interface busy. EDIT: Tried the 300 baud rate settings, and the same thing happened. WinPCIN shows data transfer, but the NC screen does not show anything in the "Data Type:" line.

The machine is still not accepting any data and does not show a file type in the "DataType:" field. This is using: 9600 BaudRate, Even, 7, 2 5011 & 5013: 11000111 What is the next step in getting machine to accept data?

You just please check your backup means open the respective file & check starting header. mlewisnachi Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	I am pressing the data in key twice. When I press it the first time, DIO shows up at the top right of the screen. When I press it the second time, Interface Busy shows up at the bottom of the screen. I have checked my file headers, and all are correct (%TEA1N, %TEA2N, etc). these are the correct files for our machine. I have tried both the front and back port, and both have the same outcome. I am using a standard off the shelf serial cable, so pinout should be correct.

Pee That's the conclusion I came to as well. Any ideas on how to get the machine to receive the data? If my COM port settings and 50** binaries are set correctly, I am not sure why I am having issues. Any help would be much appreciated

Is the 5010-5016 settings the same for sending data into the machine as reading data out? I am worried the RS232 interface may be bad. Is this something that normally could go bad?
