As from TIA V21, it is possible to use a S7-1200G2 as a OPC UA Server.

Configuration:

• Device configuration > CPU properties > OPC UA > Server > set the “Activate OPC UA Server” parameter. (other configurations in the folder are optional)
• Device configuration > CPU properties > Runtime licenses > OPC UA > Type of purchased license = SIMATIC OPV UA S7-1200 basic
• Project tree > CPU > OPC UA communication > Server interface > add new server interface.
• In the created server interface, drag on drop the tags that you wish to use in OPC UA server interface from the right side (OPC UA elements) to the left side (OPC UA server interface)
• Compile hardware / software (rebuild all), download

TIPs

• CPU needs FW 4.1 (https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/br/pt/view/109983197/en)
• Although there are no strict controls to verify whether the license was purchased, from a legal standpoint, purchasing the license is mandatory.

What is the speed limit for S7-1200 G2 and OPC UA updating a directly connected PC in Hz?

Is it deterministic?

Is it controllable by PLC logic, like "trigger OPC UA server send" rather than simply informing OPC UA server that data is now "consistent"?

I apologize for not knowing more about this new capability.

Is there available documentation that explains clearly the above answers as theoretical maximums, determinism and data consistency and things like that?
