Hi, 

I am working on a KOLB Varimat machine running Siemens Step 5 840C. We have had an intermittent issue with an E/R module not powering up correctly, in previous instances it has just been left a while and then the fault clears with reset keys and the machine powers up as normal. This time the fault will not go away: fault code is '9102 E/R not ready', we also have '9100 feedback unit not ready'. 

Upon power up, noticed that the first E/R module had the green LED and the yellow charging LED but the second and third E/R modules did not - they both only display the green LED. Checked the two 24V links and the first E/R module is okay and giving out 24V to the second E/R module however the second module is not switching over or charging.  

The first E/R module is a 6SN1145-1BB00-0FA1 120/156kW
The second is a 6SN1145-1BB00-0EA1 80/104kW. 

It is my understanding the green LED represents drive enable, the yellow LED indicates the module is charged. When the machine is fully powered up it should only display the yellow LED on all of the E/R modules and not the green. 

So.. would you suggest the first E/R module, as we have tried changing the second one and it has made no difference.

From the description, it looks like 2nd ER module enable signals are missing that is how DC bus voltage doesnot developed. Please check drive, pulse enable signals 9-64, 9-63  respectvely of X121 your 2nd ER module, Terminal 9 must be 24 V. Check terminal 9, 112, 48 of X 161 & X171 & X172 terminal contacts. Please refer PLC logic or these signal enable circuit since it looks like ER modules are connected in parallel.

Once 2ER modules above mentioned teminal are healthy & 3 phase AC input supply is applied to module, its DC bus will be developed i.e. charges & ER module GREEN LED turns to ORANGE/YELLOW.

Thanks for the reply. Traced it back to a relay inhibiting the drive enable on the 2nd ER module.
