Like me at a Marathon, Simatic Runtime Manager is "Partly Running"

It has been working great, but a couple of days ago I downloaded an update to their SCADA PC and since then, they have not been able to see trends anywhere in the program. They are able to see current values, and all of the plant control functionality is working, it is just trending that they cannot see. When I checked the runtime, it was listed as “partly running,” and stayed that way after restarting the runtime and the computer. I tried downloading an earlier version of the program from prior to my update, but that did not fix the issue. What might be causing this and how can we fix it? Some further information: I saw online that user groups may be a problem, so I checked those. We did not have the correct user groups set up, so I fixed that, but I’m not sure how we could have run the program successfully in the first place without them? It also did not fix the current issue. I also saw that maybe the web certificate is an issue, but if that were the case, I wouldn’t expect to be able to connect to the SCADA at all. I’m also not sure of the process for fixing that. When I did the download that may have caused the issue, I had to delete the IM folder from my project and regenerate it before a download could succeed. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but the older versions of the program that I used had the older version of the IM folder and also come up in the runtime as “Partly Running” so I don’t think that is the actual root cause. Looking through RTIL Trace Viewer, I don’t see much that seems helpful, but maybe this has something to do with it? “HmiConnection 43377: Due to the OPC UA Server runtime only trust mode 1 trusted certificates configured for the HmiConnection will be ignored” Thanks in advance for the help!

A "partly running" state generally indicates that some of the necessary processes were unable to start. When using the Trace Viewer, restart the runtime while the Trace Viewer is open and filter for the WCCILpmon process. This process handles all the others. If a process is unable to start or is restarting too frequently, this information will be visible in the logs. Once the problematic process has been identified, adjust the filtering to focus on it in order to obtain more information about the failure. However, interpreting the trace logs requires an in-depth understanding of the processes, so developer assistance is often necessary. Therefore, submitting a support request is a better way to analyze the problem. If the trend control is configured to display logged data, I would expect the WinCC TagLogging (WCCILtlg) process to have failed upon startup. Kind regards Stefan

I figured there would be something in the logging, but couldn't find it myself. I will filter as you suggested and see where that gets me. I have also submitted to Siemens, and will update when I get this figured out. Thanks!

Doing this is more of a "have you tried turning it off and on again" type of solution, but if it works it works. If you are having problems with the logs I guess something filesystem-related is not properly configured.
