All firewalls are disabled on the server, regardless i have added ALM and ALMS (Photo) in addition to the inbound rules for almsrv64.exe and port 4410.

Is the server ALM configured to allow key transfer into the server?  ALM -> Settings -> General ->UncheckForbit license keys transfer to local computer.

Is the server ALM configured to allow remote connections?  ALM -> Settings ->Connection ->CheckAllow remote connections.

Hi!

We have just moved to a new ALM server and we are experiencing some problems, and i`d like to know if anyone has any tip on where to continue the troubleshooting.

ALM is installed on a brand new server running Windows Server 2019 Standard.

ALM on Server: 6.0 SP12+ Update2 64-bit Edition.

ALM on local PC: 6.0 SP12+ Update2 64-bit Edition.

When adding the connection to the server i am promted by the following 2 errors:

1. Failed to initialize some or all target systems. (The connection to computer "X" has been lost)

2. No menu item could be requested for "X". (The connection to computer "X" has been lost)

After the two error messages, the server with C: and E: is found.

After refreshing the server C: and E: is gone.

Trying to move a lisence from local PC to the server is starting but then will ble declined as (The connection to computer "X" has been lost).

I have updated the security settings on the server, allowing for almsrv64.exe and port 4410 (i have not changed this for the server)

There are no problem pinging or tracing the server adress from the local pc.

I have a feeling there is something trowing my requests out on the server side, but i am no IT guy and they also are stuck, so i do hope anyone can point us in the correct direction on what might cause this issue!

The network connection between the PG/PC and the server probably should be set to private (or domain if in a windows environment).  Having it set to public can cause problems.  Search for "powershell set network to private" and use powershell (start as admin).  This may not be the root cause, but it is worth doing if you ever *need* to enable the firewall on your PG/PC (which is a good idea, especially at customer facilities).

Time to check windows event logs (open EVENTVWR.exe as Administrator) on both the PG/PC that is being denied access and server with ALM.

On the PG/PC, filter the time range for right before you launch ALM on the PG/PC until 1 minute after.  This will make it easier to find the important system event(s) related to the access denial.

Next, check server system and security event logs for the same time range (filtered) to see why the ALM might have refused the connection, or why windows prevented ALM from receiving the connection request.

We managed to find the fault now, the server was set up correctly, but the connected where blocked on a management server in between the PC and the ALM server.
So yet again it blocking us ;)
