FM 354 Servo Drive, current limiting

Firstly, I am connecting this to a LAL30-025-55 Linear Actuator http://www.smac-mca.com/products.htm If anyone has any experience of this working or not working, I would like to hear. Pinouts to be connected are LAA-5 male Input http://www.smac-mca.com/laa5pinouts.htm One of the important functions I wish to carry out is a soft land, about 0.25N,I am told this can be done if I can limit the current.The routine consists of a controlled low force approach in velocity mode, while the position error is constantly monitored. Once contact is made the position error builds up until a pre-programmed figure is reached resulting in the rod maintaining position on the surface of the component. I then need to know what this stopped positon is. The motor I am intending to use is actually linear and not rotary like the norm, I wish to test switches and here is how. {Soft landing explained}: I want to drive the motor with a low force until ittouches the switch, a low enough force so the switch is not actuated I want to measure this position and use it as my zero point for the tests of the switch. {End of soft landing} I will then if possible increase the force to something that will happily operate the switch and drive the switch to various positions. Howare you detecting that you on that point? The FM354 doesn't work with forces, the only thing that is posible is to detect the switching point when it switches. When you detect that point, you may go back and "look" where the switch opens again. It might also be possible to do a reference point approachand then set the zeropoint (or anything you want). Also Set Reference Point is possible when you detect your point with a approach. But the only thing is... how detect you the point where this reference point will be? [:(]

Hi Late, Yes I really need to control the force, so that the motor has not enough force to operate the switch and sort of stalls on contact, I wanted to then ask the motor to tell me that position or make it a zero point. After that I wanted to increase the force so the motor is strong enough to carry out my switching tests. I am told that I need a controller that has current limiting abillity to control the motor force. From what you tell me I think this controller will not accomplish the task [:cry:] Many thanks, Kev.
