Download to Flash Memory in S7-400

Maha Posts: 118 Rating: (4)	Hi All, I am using S7-400 CPU(414-3XM05-0AB0) with Flash Memory card, whenever I am downloading individual blocks its asking to compress memory otherwise we need to download the whole projects in to Memory card. Is there any way to download indiviual blocks to Flashmemory (same like normal dnload to RAM)? I can't change Flash Memory to RAM.

Also check the size of your application software. Open Simatic manager, right click on blocks (in the left hand side tree) and select object properties and select blocks mask. I think you will fond the required space of work memory is greater than the size of the memory card. If so, please check to see if you can increase the memory of the CPU.

Kamal Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello, Looks like you download to the CPU with the memory card plugged in. This is not possible with the flash cards, it's only possible with RAM cards. For flash cards you need a Prommer, you can use the one in you PG, or if you don't have PG, you can go with an external one 6ES7792-0AA00-0XA0

Maha Posts: 118 Rating: (4)	Hi, I think Kamal understood my question, but not required with prommer, we can do by using the option in Simatic that "Download user program to memory card". but only we can download all blocks...not invidual one..i need to download individual block dnload to Flash.

You can't even download to flash card unless CPU is in STOP mode. When you edit some blocks and download them, you just download them to worm memory of CPU not to flash card. Maha Posts: 118 Rating: (4)	Hi H-H, Thank you very much fro the reply. We have ordered some RAM for in house testing from the local siemens. But this is not the same for CPU317-2DP, is in it? I heard from my seniors that we can download individual blocks to flash in 317 cpu.

With MMC you can do the same as with the RAM load memory. Regards Sydney

I think what you need is to compress work memory by: 1. with an on-line connection to CPU 2. R.Click on CPU from project tree 3. select PLC>Module Information 4. Goto Memory tab 5. Click "Compress Memory" Button Note that CPU should be in RUN-P mode to allow memory compression. the above procedure will compress the work memory (defragment the space) and you will be able to download individual blocks. but to back up the new blocks you need to burn them on the flash EPROM using the "Download user program to memry card" option which can be done only with CPU in STOP mode.
