S7-400F/H system with CPU417-4(6ES7 417-4HL04-0AB0) firmware update to be done without stoppage

fups Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	We have around 8 S7-400F/H systems running on CPU417-4(6ES7 417-4HL04-0AB0) with firmware version V4.0.4. We want to update all the 8 systems (16 CPUS) to new firmware V4.0.11 without stopping operations i.e. one CPU should be available in run mode for operation in each system at all times during the update. Can somebody advise us on proper procedure to be followed which would avoid operational stoppage or minimize stoppage for few minutes. Regards, Faiyaz Pawaney

I have never done it in RUN, i haev changed the hardware configuration in RUN. I imagine it works the same way. Sorry i dont have a link to the manual.

The thread was about CPUs having firmware version V4.0.4 while it's possible to upgrade firmware without stopping H system starting from firmware version 4.5 . You can find more info. in, Can you perform an operating system update when an H system is in operation? Best regards. H-H

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 11/17/2023 Posts: 2705 Rating: (318)	Dear Falyaz, The update of the firmware in RUN is as off V4.52 (the first V4.5 don't want to update in RUN): Description: From firmware V4.5, you can conduct an operating system update on an S7-400H system while the system is in operation. This applies to the following S7-400H V4.5 CPUs: CPU 412-3H (order number 6ES7412-3HJ14-0AB0) CPU 414-4H (order number 6ES7414-4HM14-0AB0) CPU 417-4H (order number 6ES7417-4HT14-0AB0) So you need to go true the dark, however you could get the time as small as possible, when getting the Reserve out of order by setting the RUN/STOP key to STOP. Please consider that there might be NO error-LEDsON before starting with this. Now update the Reserve and load the software, shutdown the Master on a good way and STOP the Master. ThenSTART the Reserve CPU and look if everything is ok, when everything is ok then start to update the Master CPU with the new Firmware, when not then you are lucky, you have the right Software still in the Master, shutdown the Reserve and put the RUN/STOP switch on STOPand START the Master again and you are again alive with the old Firmware. Good luck, in about one day you could manage it to update all 16 H-CPUs.
