Single profibus with H system

Manjeet Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Dear Experts, Normally in our projects customer asks for redundant controllers, in that case we need to offer them H AS System inPCS7 architecture. But the problem with H AS architecture is that I have to supply redundant profibus for I/O communication even though customer has not asked for it. This results in extra IMs atET200Ms, dual profibus cabling, dual OLMs,DualFO cables, Y links and collectively make me out of competion. Do we have solutionavailable with H-system where I can have single profibus network for IO communication? I donot want to use y link because of its own limitations. Best Regards, Manjeet

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (264)	Very good question and not an easy answer:^) As far as know Siemens doesn't have solution for large amount of redundant IO. Generally you need some gateway. I've used Comsoft PRS - it solves the problem, but can't really recommend it as a standart solution. Maybe these is some better alternatives at the moment - i examined this aspect 3-4 years ago. As an alternative you can look on Profibus/Ethernet gateways to connect your IO through it - but thats system-dependent, possible not always.

In this case, you can get a large amount of I / O for auxiliary CPU (I-slave), but given the limited bandwidth Y-Link (244byte), you have to write a program to transfer all I / O auxiliary processor through the window Y-link. PRS from Comsoft free from these restrictions, and perhaps with it would be better, but I have no experience with it.

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (264)	I mean following - you can take S7-315PN (for example) and make it master on PB network, connect it to some switch (like scalance), add 2xCP on H-system and make 2 connections between each H-CPU and S7-315PN. Thus you'll turn 315 into some sort of gateway to collect data on PB and send data to H-system on Ethernet. I'm not sure if this concept is ok with PCS - lacking experience:^) Also it might be some ready-made 3rd party device - have to look in the internet. If you'll find one - let me know, periodically i need it too:^)
