Hello guys; I agree with the general consensus that you cannot have Profibus-DP based redundant IO configurations with S7-400 IO modules. However, there exists the possibility of using expansion racks to implement S7-400 IO modules as redundant IO. See the attached screencapture, taken from the S7-400H manual: SIMATIC Fault-tolerant systems S7-400H We never implemented it but we did study the possibility for one of our projects, we finally selected redundant ET 200M stations as they were more flexible, with a higher number of stations and less restricted in distance . The manual above mentions a maximum distance of 100 m: you would need a pair of IM 460-3 Send-IMs in the S7-400 central rack, and a pair of IM 461-3 Rec-IMs fo each remote IO station (you can use 2UR2 racksfor example, or a single UR2H rack per station). As stated the maximum diustance allowed for the whole configuration is 100 m. with a maximum of 4 remote stations See the following manual for more infor on the Iracks and Interface modules available. SIMATIC S7-400 S7-400 Automation System Module Data Of course all IOs used in this configuration will have to be wired as redundant digital or analog IO, and redundant IO program blocks will still need to be implemented.
