Is there a way to remove this without knowing the password?

Hi,

you can remove the Memory Card and delete the content in Windows Explorer.

 No, if you want to preserve the original program.

I don't care about the current program on the CPU.

I've put a empty SD card in it. When i go to online&diagnostics and try to reset to factory default I need to give the password.

Full reset of S7-1500...lets assume you use basic 1511-1 PN.

1. Power off unit 

2. Remove SIMATIC Memory Card (SMC) from CPU.

3. Insert SMC Card into PC/PG (MMC Reader- FAT32)

4. Open the Card and delete .S7S file and folder (DO NOT DELETE ANY HIDDEN FILES)

5. Start CPU without SMC loaded.

6. Navigate to Settings --> Reset --> Factory Defaults --> Acknowledge with OK.

7. Wait for CPU to peform factory reset.

8. Once completed, power down CPU and insert SMC.

9. Reinstate power- CPU and SMC now restored to factory defaults.
