s7 usb adapter: driver problem or broken?

horatio Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	greetz i have recently acquired a simatic s7 pc adapter usb (part # 6es7 972-0cb20-0xa0) so that i can use the MPI/DP interface to pull diagnostics from a goss web press using a laptop. however, the adapter is not functioning as expected after i install the drivers from the CD. none of the LEDs on the adapter light up when it's plugged into the laptop and the manual dictates they should (p. 29). i suspect that i may have improperly installed the driver(s) for the device or that it is broken. any advice on exactly which driver i need installed to get this to work? just to be sure you know the setup i'm working with, here's a diagram laptop---(USB)---s7 adapter---(MPI/DP)---press with the laptop running winxp pro. i have S7, Drive ES and some other siemens software installed already. cheers

horatio Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	i'm retarded. i needed to plug the adapter into the PLC to get the thing going. all is well now :). anybody got advice on docs to get started with Step 7, Drive ES and D7-SYS? i have a bunch of manuals that an electrician here was given when he went to classes specifically for this, but it's far less pedagogical than i'm used to.

And the CP5512 has more options for diagnosing e.g. Profibus. When using the PC Adapter USB, the device has to be powered from e.g. a CPU or a repeater.

imran Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Dear Horatio I just want to ask which simatic manager version you are using b/c I have S7 5.1 installed and I even cannot install the driver of usb/mpi adapter. I think usb/mpi adapter works with higher version of simatic manager. I need your reply Regards Imran

I have read this manual several times and there is no limitation regrding simatic manager versionthats why I purchased usb/mpi adapter. Any way I think somebody from siemens should have toclarified this point. Imran
