Do you like read a encoder directly by a PC, with out PLC? Any falls you will need a counter module. For example, you can use WinAC on your PC, a CP 5611, profibus interface, and ET200M with FM350. However, you can use a PLC as interface betweento the coumputer (S7-200 CPU has high speed coutner incorporated). In this case the S7-200 read the encoder, and calcules the speed. The data than can be read for a HMI or PC.

And an time interrupt INT 0, every 100ms, you got the counted pulses. So you should be able to calculate a speed from it. Hope this helps, Best regards, Wizard
