I have a general query that whether we can control(connect) a stepper motor to a S7 200 smart PLC directly.

PLC is SR40

and what type of connection is required ?

1) SR40 with Stepper motor directly    OR    2) SR40 with some drive connected to stepper motor

The forum has little interaction with the S7-200 Smart family of PLCs, it is mostly marketed for the Asian market. 

But if you search around the forum a bit you can find some discussions here where applications of the S7-200 Smart are available:
