We had the same problem after upgrading MS Office to 2014 and this fixed the problem.

Worked for me. I had uninstalled Office 2007 32 bit then installed Office 2010 64 bit. Then coulldn'y open Projects.

The office driver repair WORKED FOR ME. Recently changed to Office 2016/365 (not sure what IT is doing actually)

This bizarre connection between software packages doesn't give me confidence in either Office or Automation software developers. 

Fix this issue by delete the .mcp file in the project ,detail path is “\u7\project.mcp” .
