Morning, 

I have connected an incremental encoder to a S7-1200 and enabled the HSC. 

The input light on the plc flashes when it is turned. But it is not showing a reading in the %ID1000 in Tags. Nor does it show any change in count on 'MOVE' command.

Am I missing something simple?

Did you download hardware configuration after enabling HSC?

Morning, yes, I have downloaded to the PLC, then gone On-Line with monitoring On.

In 'PLC Tags' %ID1000 is a DInt, but always shows 0 for the Monitor Value.

I've just connected the Siemens switch input module (a small circuit board with a switch for each input) and its not showing an input from that on the 'PLC Tags' either?

if your input lights on plc then you have to review the configuration and the program, so can you check the following steps:

*Configuration

1- Enable the high-speed counter in the “General” parameter group by ticking the corresponding checkbox. for example HSC_

2- In the “Function” parameter group, define the functioning of the counter as follows:

       – "Type of counting": “Period”

       – “Operating phase”: “Single phase”

       – "Counting direction is specified by": "User program (internal direction control)"

       – "Initial counting direction": "Count up"

       – "Frequency measuring period": 1.0 sec

3- In the “Hardware inputs” parameter group, go to "Clock generator input" and enter the hardware input "%I0.0" ( if you connect your switch on %I0.0).

*Program:

1- insert the instruction "CTRL_HSC_EXT" (“Control high-speed counters (extended)”)

2- At the "HSC" input, specify the hardware identifier (HW-ID) of the high-speed counter "HSC1"(for example 257 // you should check it in configuration)

3- check the start address in the input addresses (%id1000) and use it to see your counter.

==> if those steps are correctly maked and you still have a problem so try to use another input.
