you can use a 2 charackter wide bargraf to show the status. See attached example.

Please not max. 4 bargraphs are possible in one message text.

Seems a good idea, but in reality leading "0" are not shown!

The multistate indication could also be made the same way (0-close, 1-open, 2-mid.position). Up to 9 positons / levels but 4 devices only if larger than 3states (limit 32767).
