Encoder connection

Recently, I've acquired a machine equipped with an incremental encoder that has two wires, A and B, connected to the DI8x24VDC HS [6ES7 131-6BF00-0DA0].

I can see that the module has options for speed counting and oversampling, but I'm still struggling to configure and program it. Is this module the appropriate choice for connecting the encoder, or should they have delivered a TM Count module instead?

As a side question, what are some real-world use case scenarios for DI oversampling?"

Say there's continuous product moving at say 8 m/sec. And it is cut into pieces, say of 100 mm length. And there's some quality check device with sufficient sampling speed. @ 1 ms cycle time there's 8 mm window where product is suspected to have bad quality. Whenever cut happens in that window both pieces, before and after cut must be rejected. This yields 8% of excessive rejection. If oversampling x16 is used, this window shrinks to 0.5 mm. In turn excessive rejection drops to 0.5 %.
