I'm looking for some advice for a new S7-1500 project coming up.

My customer would like me to link the PLC to a series of Profibus PA instruments.

Thinking of using a 1516-3 PN/DP cpu here. However, can the Profibus DP interface also communicate with PA devices or do I need a link coupler or something?

I would welcome any recommendations or suggestions.

I recommend using the "TIA Selection Tool" (online) - search this support site.

Configure your S7-1516-3 PN/DP and review the protocols available to the PB DP interface in the PLC description right before adding to your "project".  Bottom right Description / Details pane lists things it can communicate with.

If it does not work with PB PA, look in list of available COMM modules for profibus PA as an available supported protocol.

It is much faster than trying to get you to read the S7-1500 System Manual.
