Petrus Posts: 2 Rating: (1)	Hi everyone! I am posting this in the hope that someone will help me solve this problem. We are running WinCC v6 (SP3) and one of our workstations is reporting that the software license has expired which we found strange. I noted that the ALM service did not start and when trying to start it manually I got the following errors in the Windows Application Event log: Event Type:Error Event Source:Automation License Manager Service Event Category:None Event ID:18 Date:01/04/2008 Time:10:39:42 User:N/A Computer:WINCCOPSW02 Description: DataBase - OpenWithServiceComponents failed with 0x80004005. Event Type:Error Event Source:Automation License Manager Service Event Category:None Event ID:18 Date:01/04/2008 Time:10:39:42 User:N/A Computer:WINCCOPSW02 Description: API = DataBase thread: InitDataBase failed (0x80004005), error code = 0, message = The operation completed successfully. We are also getting various popup windows and we're having to close them by clicking on OK manyy times. This is very inconvenient. Any idea what could be causing these errors? Petrus Posts: 2 Rating: (1)	This was solved by uninstalling the ALM, deleting the almdb.mdb file and installing again the ALM. Problem was then resolved and the service started normally

I followed your instructions -Remove the ALM from the computer -Remove the almdb.mdb file and all of the "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Siemens\SWS\almsrv\" folder -Restart the computer -Install the ALM only from WinCC install CD (e:\WinCC\setup\Products\ALM) and this was solved the ALM problem, and the licence files remained without any damage. Thanks a lot for this efficient post! Peter

I followed your instructions but with some modifications: -Remove the ALM V3 .0 SP3 from the computer -Remove completely the folder "Automation License Manager" (with the almdb.mdb file) in "c:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Application Data\Siemens\Automation\" -Restart the computer -Install the ALM V3 .0 SP3 This was solved the ALM problem and the licences were ok. AndyM86 Joined: 4/23/2025 Last visit: 6/6/2025 Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	I kept reinstalling different versions from different sources of ALM without any improvement (like 5 or 6 every time with a pc restart), every time the ALMS stopped running after a view seconds… At the end I just kept the new V6.2 SP3 and tried your solution with the Windows update. My latest “Security Update” was KB5058411 and I think then KB5055523 got reinstalled, so I have that now and now the ALM finally works again! I have Win11 if someone else has this problem. And the de-/re-installation of the “Security Update” took around 1h -_- Thank again for the tip!
