The S7-1200 G2 has some differences from the S7-1200 in terms of using HSC for single counting

The main ones are:

1. The HSC address no longer starts, by default, at address 1000
2. The S7-1200 G2 only supports instruction CTRL_HSC_EXT

Given these differences, here is a simplified step-by-step guide on how to configure an HSC on the S7-1200 G2 to do simple counting, but also including the reset function.

Hardware Configuration:

1. CPU > Device configuration > Properties > High speed counters (HSC) > HSC1 (for example) > General: Set “Enable this high-speed counter”
2. CPU > Device configuration > Properties > High speed counters (HSC) > HSC1 (for example) > Function: Type of counting = Count (set the other properties as desired)
3. CPU > Device configuration > Properties > High speed counters (HSC) > HSC1 (for example) > Hardware Input: set the desired HW input for the counting
4. CPU > Device configuration > Properties > DI xx /DQ xx > Digital inputs > Channel xxx (like configured in the anterior step) > input filter = set a filter time that match with the application

User Program:

1. Create a DB (for example, named MyHscContrigurationDB)
   1. Inside this DB create a variable (e.g. named hscControlVariables), as data type: manually type HSC_Count (TIP: the combo box will not list this option, you need to type it manually)
2. Inside the user program (e.g. Main)
   1. Using the DB created in the previous step:
      1. If you want to enable or disable HSC, set the MyHscContrigurationDB variable. hscControlVariables.EnHsc (e.g. if you always leave this variable at 1, when you want to take readings without interruptions)
      2. If you want to reset the PLC, assign a value of zero to the MyHscContrigurationDB variable. hscControlVariables.NewCurrentCount and when resetting assign True to the variable MyHscContrigurationDB. hscControlVariables.EnCv
   2. Call the CTRL_HSC_EXT block, assign the HSC input the symbolic name (system constant) of the HSC used (e.g., Local~HSC_1), assign the CTRL input to the control variable created in the previous steps (in our example MyHscContrigurationDB. hscControlVariables)
