JamesB Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	I have accepted a new job as an electricaltech and am dealing with Siemens PLC's for the first time. While I have a decent background with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell products my Siemens is lacking (although I'll be attending a week of training starting Mon). Belowis a list ofthe various CPU's I have found: Siemens S7-300 Siemens S7-200 Siemens S7-414-2 Siemens S5-95U Siemens S5-115U Could someone provide a list of cables needed to communicatewith these CPU's? The former tech left abruptly leaving management in a bind. I have both Step 5 and Step 7 on the laptop but have yet to establish which PLC's are running which versions of software. Isee no cables at all in the office.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear JamesB, I guess this is not really easy but I will try. Usually the S7 systems you have may be accessible with the same interface, MPI. In case of the S7-200 it may be PPI but this will not be very complicated. For the S7s you have you have two choices. 1. You use a CP, the CPs available for you are either PC-Cardbus or USB available - PC Card would be the CP 5512 (6GK1551-2AA00) - USB would be the CP 5711.( 6GK1571-1AA00) Here the CP 5711 may be used also with Micro Win to access S7-200, if needed. 2. You may use cheaper USB Adaptors but in this case you would need two adapters, one for MPI and one for PPI. - PC - USB Adapter (6ES7972-0CB20-0XA0) and - USB / PPI Adapter (6ES7901-3DB30-0XA0). As cable you may use a MPI Cable or standard PROFIBUS Cable, just as you like it. On the S5 we have a rather harder job. Because for the S5 you need a active TTY interface. The S5 uses a so called AS 511 interface. This is not available for Laptops anymore at least not by SIEMENS anymore. On the market you will find some S5 USB Adapter to be used with STEP 5 too.. but as said not by SIEMENS. If you check the Forum you will find some entries for AS511 interfaces for PCs, also on USB.
