For example if you set 16#0001 output value will be with fixed point. Input string - "123", out will be 12.3. P - Character Offset from which start converting (P=1 means Index to the first character to be converted ). VAL_STRG SIZE - Number of characters to be written to the OUT string. If you put 5, then in result (OUT) will be 5 places like XXXXX. And if you have in IN - 234, result will be XX234. PREC - Parameter PREC specifies the precision or number of digits for the fractional part of the string. If the parameter IN value is an integer, then PREC specifies the location of the decimal point. For example, if the data value is 123 and PREC = 1, then the result is "12.3". The maximum supported precision for the REAL data type is 7 digits. I suggest you also to play online a little bit more with both functions. There (online) the things are clearer...
