Calculation of capacitor rating and number of steps

Please suggest for a new plant wherein the incoming transformer rating is 1000KVA , Load is mixture of motors and Lighting . Target power factor is 0.97 . My question is how to exactly calculate the exact KVAR of capacitors required , No. of steps , type of switching (whether binary or sequential ) . In case you have any document please mail , it will be very helpful
