Hello Tuff Gong; Here is a (very) basic distinction between relay outputs of a PLC compared to transistor/triac outputs: http://www.plcmanual.com/plc-output-units Besides the mentionned differences, relay outputs can generally carry more output current (both DC and AC) than their transistor/triac counterparts, but have a more limited lifespan due to mechanical considerations and are generally slower in response time.
