how to open "know how protected block" with out source file

If functions don't work service engineers shouldn't change it, as they usually can't predict all consequences. On the other hand if SE feel so confident they can change FCs it's really strange they can't follow internal FC names

Data exchanged with others - can be in global data block. because of this access to key functions is essential to do debugging and commissioning. Also what in case of a bug in protected function or when author protected key functions in the program just before leaving company [as an act of sabotage to make everybodys' life a nightmare]?

There is no need to open simatic protected blocks or any well documentated blocks, that''s what i read. If you have a problem with programmers who sabotage things, then it''s up to you to try to open the blocks. someone who is good enough to program such things know better ways then knowhow protect to sabotage. Hello, Just to add some points to what mentioned already by my Expert friend MarcJan: When a function is protected, there is a reason for that.It is protected against changes in future or it is a standard function.Also there is possibility of protecting authors' technical details on a issue against rival.It is the right for the author. Before accepting the preliminary version of a program in FAT,you may ask the author to access all algorithm of necessity in your program by providing reason. Standard functions are well documented.Functions from non-SIEMENS developer also has enough comments to make head and tail of all program flow.For troubleshooting you can use interfaces to FCs or instance data blocks related to FBs. and finally I believe hiding a bug inside a function for hinder production of a company is as bad as remove protection of a function because of curiosity.I think better rules in companies may avoid such problems. This is because any block can be know-how protected by the programmer [make source and add keyword "know_how_protect" to the source then compile it].

I think deleting the program is a better idea, Again there are better ways to hide such program parts. In my company it's not allowd to knowhow protect blocks (except Simatic blocks) Things like knowhow protection you can put in a contract. Regards, Marcjan
