More optimized i.e. it will use less memory is to create FC and declare timer value as

Input/Output which is to be linked to M or DB or STAT of the calling block.

if FP (positive edge) used its bit can be declared as In/Out as well.

Pseudocode for TON timer:

if (I_ENABLE && PULSE && IQ_TIME<I_SETPOINT) IQ_TIME=IQ_TIME+1;

Q_DONE:=(I_ENABLE && IQ_TIME>=I_SETPOINT);
