mister rbt Posts: 9 Rating: (1)	Does anybody now what the best way is to communicate between a rack with a CPU 416-2DP and another rack with a CPU 416-2DPwith onboard a CP443-5 ext via Profibus. I need some very fast comms with 4 integers and some slow comms with 20 Words. Wich is the best way? by SFB's or SFC's. thanks,

In the next link is a example for a Ethernet link, but this software is also working for Profibus FDL: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/17853532

Understanding you right, only on rack is with this CP. So FDL isn't possible. [:(] Other possible solution: Please check whether your CPU is able to work as an DP-Slave, so you would be able to use this way for your communication. For the fast one I think it would be the best solution. You don't write, what "fast" mean. The communication via SFBs and SFCs isn't the fastest one. You have to check it. Personally I prefer PUT and GET because only on one side I have to program the interfaces. But this is really a personally preference. Best regards Sabine

The DP network approx. time is 2ms. "communication via PROFIBUS FDL is only possible if both racks have a CP443-5. Understanding you right, only on rack is with this CP. So FDL isn't possible" I thought that CP443-5 can only be masters? Other possible solution: Please check whether your CPU is able to work as an DP-Slave, so you would be able to use this way for your communication. What way? Best regards,

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello Mister RBT, actually the fasted Update time is between a DP Master and a DP Slave, Sabine is right. So if you add some more data to the Data transfer between the DP Master CPUs and the DP Slave CPUs you will have the fastest way to transfer the Data. There is only one thing you have to take care of by yourself, this would be if the Master or one of the Slaves is gone, than you have to make sure in your program that you use either the last valid value or you prepare the program for this situation another way.
