I've never used the HSC function of S7-1200 CPU's, is it possible to read an absolute encoder with this functionality?

I need to control a Yaskawa sigma servomotor, but our customer's budget its too low, so I'd like to know if it is possible to make a position control with a Sinamics V20 and S7-1200 Cpu to read the encoder and control the VFD with PID controller.

Edit: The position precision is not high, It can be on a 20 mm window with no problem.

Yes possible. 

It's in CPU properties. 

Enable it. 

Don't worry, it's easy. 

Try a sample and simulate with an encoder. You will get confidence. 

Are you using HSC with incremental encoder or telegram with absolute encoder?

 No, not possible. Please post the detail of the motor, drive and encoder if possible. A model and part number will just fine.

S7-1200 HSC can be used with incremental encoder and not absolute encoder. What you can do is add, at a considerable cost, a ET200sp and a TM PosInput  to connect the absolute encoder.

I have worked with S7 1500 PLC with absolute encoders communication via Telegram- profibus connection.If you want to connect absolute encoder for HSC input of S7 1200 PLC, please get expert advice before do it.

Incremental encoder will work. 

Thanks for your response, I think we'll buy a sinamics G120, with CU250S-2PN to control that servo motor. I think that should work and make it much easier.

 Are you sure about that or do you mean S120?
