Connection to the CPU with older version of CPU firmware should be possible.

Going online & diagnostic yo ucan update your CPU to the higher or even lower version of firmware.

What can be a problem to you is TIA portal. If someone download project with higher level of TIA (v15.1)you won't be able to connect with the PLC with v14.
