Issue Brief:

During printing, all of a sudden the simotion D445-2 drive shows an error with continuous red color blinking in the PN port.

When the error occurs, random printing units among the 8 units in our flexo machine start malfunctioning. The malfunctions are usually the automatic unlock of anilox cylinders, ink trays fall down, unable to control the print unit because the command given in its touch panel doesn’t communicate with the unit.

The issue is completely random and not particular to a single unit with a frequency of about 5-10 times a day. We have no choice but to restart the machine which is a huge issue to our production.

What we do when the issue occurs:

Every time the PN issue occurs we either restart the entire machine or unplug and plug back the power supply to that particular printing unit that is malfunctioning when the issue occurs.

The frequency of the issue is increasing by the day but we are not able to understand the root cause. We are afraid this will eventually lead to a long breakdown of the machine.

Machine parts we have replaced(support from machine supplier):

We have replaced the profinet communication cables running from the control panel to all 8 units.

We have replaced the solenoid valves in all the 8 units and reprogrammed them.

We haven’t replaced the drive yet because our supplier keeps saying there is no issue in the drive when they diagnose the machine.

As per the diagnostic document PN led flashes red corresponds to a bus fault. The cause for the fault mentioned are 

● Failure of a connected I/O device.

● At least one of the assigned I/O devices cannot be addressed

● Incorrect or no configuration settings

Remedies

Check configuration settings, check IO device

Since the machine was working before, Only thing left is the IO devices in the machine.

Did your supplier checked all the PN devices in the machine?. Is there any problem with the DC supply to any of the modules?
