S7-300 setup 4 racks or 5 racks?

smoothop Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hello all, I believe the S7-300 allows 4 racks with 8 IO cards/rack for 32 cards/4 racksmaximum. I have an existing PLC cabinet with 3 racks but the CPU is not part of the backplane with any IO cards so I'm wondering if this qualifies as 4 racks? 1. PS, CPU, CP342-5 2. PS, ET200M IM153-2, I/O Cards 3. PS, ET200M IM153-2, I/O Cards 4. PS, ET200M IM153-2, I/O Cards We would like to add: 5. PS, ET200M IM153-2, I/O Cards Are we allowed to do this? Or would I have to extend the CPU rack backplane and add IO modules there? Attached sketch may clarify question.Your help is appreciated. Attachment s7300.pdf (850 Downloads)

IM365 in Slot 3 of central rack and one expansion rack. (only 2 Racks) 2. IM360 in slot 3 of central rack and max. 3 IM361 in slot 3 of three expansion racks. (max. 4 Racks) 3. IM153 (ET-200M) or equal same as ET-200L or ET-200Sand etc. for expansion more than 4 Racks. As is clear from Figure (Attachment) in your project you have one central rack and 3 expansion rack base on IM153 (ET-200M). So, you can increase your expansion rack up to 32 without any repeater. Of course, the maximum IO capacity should be considered. Regards, MRG

Hello again, Yes you can add IO modules in central rack (Slot 4 to 11). Please note the following: 1. Do you have any bus module in expansion rack? 2. What is it about the ET200M that allows so much more expansion? Yes, the expansion racks each have (4) ET 200M active bus modules 6AG1195-7HB00-7XA0 and (1) 6AG1195-7HA00-2XA0 I see, so I cannot have hot swap on the main rack. Thanks for pointing that out.

Your welcome, When you use the Profibus-DP network to expansion I/O Cards, you must note to some things: 1. You can assign profibus address from 1 to 125. Imagine tahtDP address 2 is reserved for CPU.So, 124 address is remain for slaves. Also, according to IKPI 2012 (Industrial Communication-Page 32 of 1796): Max. number of nodes is 125. 2. After that you must note to CPU's address area or process image. for example you have only 256 Digital input chanel and ...for CPU312 (256/32= 8 DI32) 3. Each 32 slave is a segment. If you have more that 32 slaves in networkyou needa RS485 repeater (6ES7972-0AA02-0XA0) Regards, MRG

Also if you used IM153-2 (High Feature), you can insert up to 12 modules per rack

Max. of 4 racks rule, 8 modules each,is valid for IM360 & 3 IM361. We call this configuration as centeralized configuration. Thus because it is limited by K-Bus cables between IMs (360 &361). Max. of 2 racks rule, 8 modules each,is valid for IM365. We call this configuration as centeralized configuration. Thus because it is limited by K-Bus cables between S & R module of IM 365. Max. of 31 racks, 12 module each,in addition to CPU rack is valid using Profibus Interface Module (IM153-2HF) We call this configuration as distrubited configuration or Decentral Peripherie. Thus because you can install ET200M station far awy from each others in according to profibus network limitations. smoothop Thanks a lot MRG. For your config., you need S7-300 CPU with DP interface You do not need 2 IM 53-2 for each rack. Only one is enough because you did not told that you need redundancy. You do not need to install bus units because it is used for Hot-Swapping feature which is not supported for S7-300 family.

If I'm using 16 point DI and DO cards, and8 pointAI and AO cards am I approaching maximums, or coming close, with the following setup? 20 DI Cards 6 DO Cards 4 AI Cards 2 AO Cards How is it calculated? Note it is CPU317-2 PN/DP.

If you are not using the appropriate OBs for handling module fault then the CPU will go to stop mode.
