When I use an absolute encoder in a D410 project, the F31120 comes out once being powered on.The fault value is :1 bin.And the r949.0=1(Bit 0: Undervoltage condition on the sense line.).The encoder is from heidenhain.and there is a SMC20. I do not know the reason,I have checked the cable and the socket. I also want to know what is the "sense line"? In the SMC20 encoder interface, what is the difference between"Power for encoder" and "power for sense"? |

Hello, if your encoder has no sense contacts, you have to bridge the sense terminal at the SMC20. Pin 1 to Pin 14 A controller compares the encoder system supply voltage - sensed via the Remote Sense cables - with the reference supply voltage of the encoder system, and adjusts the supply voltage for the encoder system at the output of the sensor module until the required supply voltage is obtained directly at the encoder system (only for 5 V encoder system power supply). |

F31120 means the SMC20 cannot detect the Power supply of the encoder by the sense line. for example, if the encoder isshort circuit, the power supply 5V may drop to 1V maybe. then the F31120 will show. what is the "sense line"? there are two wires in the encoder cable named "P5 sense" and "M sense". they are used to check weather the power supply is ok on the end of the encoder side. |

Thank you very much for solution that helps a lot. Also we had same alarm(F31120) with incremental encoder (ern1387) with smc20. We measured this point and the supply voltage dropped because of wrong cable. We changed it with fit than the system turned to ok. |
