Adding a drive to S7-1200

Kimber_Keddy Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hello there. I have to ask a question some may think to be a stupid question but I am an Allen Bradley user and I am trying to get Siemens into my plant. I have now three running S7-1200 and I am using TIA Portal V12 (basic) and WInCC(basic). I have really taken a liking to these controllers and I am trying to learn more about the software. Most of the machines I have used them for are pretty simple one has an analog output controlling a drive. I am using the analog output to control the drive because it was the easiest way for me to achieve conrol as I am not experienced in profinet, yet. So here is my stupid question. Can I add the drive to my project over Ethernet(profinet). In AB I can add a reconized drive to my project tree and voila, all my tags appear redy to use and are mapped to the drive for me. I am looking at the TIA portal and I see I can add "motion" control but I am assuming this is not for standard controlling of a drive. I can see where to add controllers and HMI but no drive selection. Is this simply because I am on a basic version of software or is the 1200 not capeable to talking to a drive over ethernet? Maybe somebody can direct me to a white paper or technote about this sort of thing. Thanks in advance!

It is connected to my network in the network view window. Now what I am stuck on is finding the tags associated with this drive. Any help? However, when I open the drop down menue I can only add Sirus soft starter 3RW and the M200D. Maybe I need some kind of add on profile or an electronic data sheet of some kind? any help will be appreciated.
