Alarm_DQ and alarm text description

ThaKibosh Bronze Member Joined: 5/31/2011 Last visit: 8/6/2024 Posts: 190 Rating: (31)	Hey all, I had some time this week to play around to configure and understand the "PLC Alarms" created with those alarm SCF like "ALARM_DQ". I think I got it rather figured out, but I have just one question. So for example you use the alarm blocks in a motor typical FB. The instance DB that is created gets the tag name of the motor. For example "120-IST1-P003" . The alarm text will then be like this: $$Instance$$: Motor alarm The instance will become the name of the datablock which is perfect. The only issue I have is that a tag name only doesn't tell me (or the operator) enough, especially not on larger plant. There should also be a description so the end result will become like: 120-IST1-P003 - Feeding water pump Motor alarm. So is there a possibility to also add a description? Perhaps from the datablock properties "tittle" or "comment"? Any help is welcome.

But I think I might not explained my question correctly. Also it is for WinCC Advanced, not Professional. It will be used for Comfort Panels mostly. If you go in the Project Tree and select the "PLC Alarms" in the PLC folder (S7-300), then you will see the generated "Alarm Types" above and below the "Alarm instances". In the alarm types you can make the text: $$Instance$$ : Test Alarm. The place holder $$Instance$$ will automatically be replaced with the name of the instance DB. So for example if you have 10 motors using the same FB as a faceplate, you will get 10 IDB's which are given the tag names off motors. $$Instance$$ will be replaced with P001, or P002, or... This works well and reduces our work for creating single alarms for each motor, valve, etc... But for larger process plants, this is not really enough. You also want to add a description to it. What is that motor used for? For example: P004 Water tank filling pump. When a alarm becomes active, the operator needs to understand the alarm and find the error very quick. Like we see it, using the IDB "Title" or "Comment" in its properties whould be perfect for adding this description. But we don't think this is possible (yet?) in TIA v12. I only found 4 keywords for the alarms in the Step 7 Professional system manual v12 (p2809). $$CpuName$$; $$Instance$$; $$Path$$ and $$Name$$. None off them giving what we want like described above. The only way we see now, is changing the text in the "PLC Alarms" -> "Alarm instances" after the alarms are generated. But that is again manually, so the advantage work reduction is kind off lost then. So the question is: is there another way for it, or are we missing something? I hope I described the issue more clear now.

The idea is to create sources files from an Excell Object list at the start of a project so all DB's are generated with the correct names and descriptions. But thx for the idea.
