Assigning IP Address For PC running TIA Portal

subin Posts: 84 Rating: (20)	Hi, Usually we all set the Network adaptor of our PC to assign an IP address automatically. Hope you all noticed that when downloading a program to a new PLC with the above setting TIA software will detect the PLC and assign a temporary IP inside the PC. This feature looks good. Once the IP is set to PLC, after we restart the PC and when we try to communicate with the PLC it will fail. So we usually set one static IP in our PC according to our PLC IP address. Once we set a static IP in our PC we not able to access the local connected server or internet unless we set to assign an IP address automatically. Siemens released a Software tool named "SIMATIC Automation Tool". This is a very useful tool for service and maintenance people to handle PLC without TIA software. http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/98161300 I found a hidden feature of this tool. We just need to set our PC wifi or lan adaptor to assign an IP address automatically. In the software select the adaptor and scan for devices. It will scan and detect connected PLC in the network and it will internally set a temporary IP address in the PC. So we no more need to worry on setting IP address in our PC and easily can access PLC from TIA Portal Will be great if Siemens integrate this great feature in TIA Portal Software by default. Regards Christoph We are more and more adding usb/Ethernet adapters to our laptop bags so we always have a spare Ethernet adapter dedicated to PLC/Drive/HMI configuration, programming, and troubleshooting. Because of the IT security policies, I cannot directly set my IP address, so I have to use a tool that does it for me. I was able to install the software (using a local admin account), configure the various situations - work or PLC, and from my normal network account, select the proper setting which then assigns my ip address to either work or plc environments. Perhaps you could find a similar tool for your situation. You could also write a .cmd script to use the command-line network tools to change it for you. Google on how to do that. Then it is a simple double-click to run one script to change to PLC, and another script to change to normal or work LAN settings.

subin Posts: 84 Rating: (20)	Sir, I am having laptop and i only have one Ethernet port and one wifi port. So i find its helpful so that no more need to assign or worry of IP to set in my Laptop.

Kier Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Thumbs up! this realy saves the day if tia portal fails to ask to asign for a new ip in the subnet! Just a scan and it will be on the same network. Which can happen if you have to connect to multiple devices. A scan like this should be added to tia portal.
