Can signal travel more distance than e.g. 18 (milliampere) signal?

Am I correct? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Split from Permitted transfer distance for current signal 4-20mA.

danw Gold Expert Joined: 3/28/2010 Last visit: 11/19/2024 Posts: 1081 Rating: (214)	It can, but only in an academic sense that has no practical application in the real world. 4-20mA is a proportional signal where 4mA represents the 'zero' and 20mA represents the 'span'. The field instrument needs to be able drive its output current over its entire range from 4mA through 20mA because that is the expectation of any 4-20mA field device. The expectation in the automation/control/instrumentation world is that a transmitter be able to output 4-20mA, not just some limited range of 4.0 to 5.0mA. If the power supply does not have sufficient voltage to drive the expected current, then use a higher voltage power supply, or use heavier wire with less resistance.
