CF and card reader

Kindly discuss the following points:

1-I have Simatic HMI"MP 370" with CF programmed with Protool

a-Can we backup the program using  card reader with copy/paste into another similar CF as a spare?

b-How we can backup the OS?

c-What about formatting CF using Windows?

2-In certain IPC,the CF act as the hard disk

a-Can we backup the the OS in this case using card reader?

b-If this IPC already programmed,can we backup"OS+program"using card reader?

c-What about formatting CF in this case using Windows?

On FieldPGs there is a special card reader. If it is only the windows os it should work just

The Field PG have no CF Reader build in, what R_I_P mean is the MMC Reader for S7-300 Memory Cards which use a special Block File Sytem which can't be read from Windows and can't be read with a normal CardReader, here you need this Special Reader or a USB Prommer.
The description for G1020 is ok but G120 use no CF Card, only a MMC/SD Card.

For you usecase:
1.) IPC
here you can make a Backup of the CF with a Image Tool!
The CF normaly have a bootable Record and more then one Partition, so a simple Copy/Paste doesn't work. If the program is also stored on the CF Card then yes you can Backup the OS+program.

2.) MP370
The OS is not on the CF Card, so a Backup / Restore is not possible here you should use PORSave
On the CF you can make e Restore of the HMO Project and then save this from CF to PC, or any other recipe data which is stored on the CF.

Formatting:
You should not formating CF Cards from siemens.
Most of them have a FAT Filesystem but a special Bootblock or Licenceblock which is deleted if you format the card in Windows.
If this happens then you have only a normal CF without the needed data to work with the SIEMENS Hardware.

Hi,

no a Copy/paste command only copy Files and Folderstructurs of the CF Card to another Place.

But no informations or Data from the Filesystemtable, the Partitiontables, Bootrecords etc.

For such a image you must use a tool which make a binary Copy of the CF Card, then you have all needed Data to restore (clone) this card.

yes this is correct, the HMI CF can be used with Copy/Paste.
For IPC better to use a Image Tool to get the complete data.
