choosing between HTL encoder and TTL encoder

hi everybody, 

Im consider to choose between TTL encoder and HTL encoder for S120 with SMC30 encoder module, does someone help me to explain which one is best? and what is diffirence?

If you only have a 24VDC supply and add an encoder, selecting an HTL encoder saves having to purchase, add to schematics, add circuit breaker(s) / fuse(s), and install a 5VDC power supply to power a TTL encoder.

If you already have a 5VDC power supply, and you already have a 24VDC power supply, HTL is a better choice if your SMC30 will allow HTL - which I have not run across a situation where it would not, but it might for some strange technical reason (like a certain firmware SMC30 and firmware control unit only works reliably with TTL encoders).

That said, if you are designing from the start, I suggest consider, where you can, just have mains power and 24VDC power, and no 230VAC!  Avoid 5VDC & 15VDC supplies by selecting compatible components that operate off 24VDC.

HTL has a much higher signal to noise ratio than TTL.  Means it will tolerate considerably more noise and function perfectly fine.  In fact, in some situations, you could add a TTL encoder signal on top of the HTL encoder signal (accidentally of course), and the HTL encoder signal would be interpreted properly by the SMC30.

I was answering the generic question posted in the topic title.  There is even a warning about configuring the voltage parameter _before_ connecting up the encoder, correct?
