Communicating with Profinet with different devices

Hello,

I want to read and write data through profinet with a microprocessor-siemens plc as a work in university.

Is OPC Server required in this project? Or will only knowing the TCP / IP protocol and creating the appropriate gsdml folder will be enough to communicate?

For Profinet-communication you don´t need OPC-Server.

I would give a little more detail. We are conducting a project for the Thesis work in college. In this project, we will design an electronic card from scratch. The processor we will use will probably be from stm32f4 family. I want to transfer some data on this card to the siemens plc side.

Is it enough to know the structure of Profinet and edit the gsd file for this? Or is it necessary to use opc server?

I suggest you will use a new S7-1200/-1500 PLC with PN Interface. This PLCs can use several protocols to communicate. If your card can work with TCP/IP, you can exchange data with i.E. TCON/SEND or your card is an io-Device, you will need a GSDML File to exchange data.

I apologize for not telling you. the visual product is an Arduino microprocessor.

The question is very clear. Does the microprocessor and the PLC communicate with each other via the profinet protocol? Do I need an opc server? and are there documents related to the subject?

Hello mhmmdkls;

Profinet is not native to Arduino, as Duris_I pointed out.

But sourceforge librairies for S7 Ethernet have been made available:

Settimino : Ethernet library to communicate with S7 Siemens PLC ...

And here is  video showing a Profinet connection to an Arduino Nanno board (I have not tested this myself, consider it informative),
