I have to wonder if your needs could be met with a simple RS232 to LAN conversion device.

That said, it depends what the S7-1200 PLC needs to do with the AI data being sent from the other PLC.

Hello all,

I am new to programming. Do I need to write a code of Analog output Scaling in TIA portal V11 for the below details:-

I am connecting two PLCs, i.e. S7 1200 to GE PLC. via connecting a cable from

AO card (output from GE PLC) to AI card (Input of S7 1200 PLC).

Can someone help me do I need to write a code for the above process.

The AO having 0V to 10V.

The GE PLC dont have Ethernet port, it just have RS232C interface.

You can do user or engineering units in the PLC or the HMI (or both).

If you wanted, you can bring that wire currently going to the AI on the s7-1200 over to a digital input and on the GE side connect it up to the input used for counting.

Then the S7-1200 high speed input can be configured to interpret the input count as something useful, like speed - directly, without any influence from the GE PLC logic at all.

That's how I'd probably do it if it were my project.  You already have the wires.  Just be sure and bond the common wires to a common bond for all 24V signals.  NOTE: if that speed input signal is not 24VDC, then the way you are doing it is probably preferred.  Otherwise, you need a signal conditioner or perhaps it's 5VDC pulse train which can be connected to a signal board mounted to the front of the s7-1200 (but would have to be ordered, installed, and configured).

However, if I already had an opto-isolated signal conditioner that allowed me to use the existing digital pulse input directly on the s7-1200, I'd probably go with that.  In that way, even if the GE PLC is stopped, the speed signal is still available on the HMI.

The AI value for S7 1200 plc would be used as a HMI tag and use as an integer and which would be display on the HMI (pulse/Count per min)

I recommend read manual of TIA (as is recommended already). You ask for some scale function so try find this block to do your required conversion with data from AI.
