Communication with barcode reader

Mathias_Popsel Posts: 19 Rating: (0)	Hello. I have an S7 314 with a CP card ( ethernet ) there is an visualisation with a PC. Now i have a few problems: I want to connect a barcode reader, Is this possible to connect it on the PC with usb and then communicate with te PLC, via the same ethernet? how should i solve this problem? I don't know what kind of 314 CPU you have, but if your type is 314-2PtP you can directly connect this barcode device. Look at attachmen one exmple that I found here. If your type of CPU is different then take one CP341 serial communication processor which will help to connect barcode readers. About your idea to connect via USB and then to read/write with CPU, I think with "standart Siemens software" is not possible. Hope this will helps. Mathias_Popsel Posts: 19 Rating: (0)	hello, It is nog an 314 with a point to point interface, the most barcode readers are with USB, it is also nessecary that the barcode reader is wireless... are there other methods to solve it? thanks for reply

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/12/2024 Posts: 12293 Rating: (2691)	Hello Mathias; We have used HMIs and SCADA programs as gateways between different PLCs before, and thay e often presentan acceptable solution to your type of problem, if: -you can read the data from the barcode reader into Citect tags; -you can use Cicode to write the value of the barcode tags to tags for the Siemens PLC. But this is something you will have to discuss with Citect or the Citect user's forum. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
