Connecting Wonderware InTouch + Soft PLC + Simulink

linkorn86 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone! I'm new here, and I have some problems that I can't solve by myself...!! I have to do a plant simulation in a computer, connecting Wonderware Intouch with some Soft PLC through OPC, and this Soft PLC to Simulink. I'd like to know which Soft PLC is good for this connection, and how to connect them. Also I've heard there is something called PAC, that is similar to a Soft PLC, but I don't know if I can use a PAC instead of a Soft PLC, or which is better. Which Soft PLC or PAC should I use? Thanks!

An other possibility is "WinAC ODK" for communication with an "own" application written in e.g. C/C++/C# directly with thesoftplc WinAC RTX. http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/de/35067305 I'm not familiar with Wonderware Intouch, but I think there are drivers for S7 connection, which is needed to connect intouch with an SIMATIC PLC controller. regards

tony@mathworks Posts: 7 Rating: (1)	Simulink is supported as an OPC DA Client via MathWorks OPC Toolbox. If I understand properly, your plant model is in Simulink and Soft PLC is your controller. If Soft PLC has an OPC DA Server, connecting it to Simulink is straight forward via the OPC Toolbox. The only thing to consider is the speed of the simulation. You can set Simulink to run in "real-time" which means it is using the host computer's internal clock. You can speed up and slow down the simulation also. The OPC-approach should be fine for most process applications. If you are looking for something faster, such as modeling a motor drive system, the OPC-approach will likely be too slow. Regarding InTouch, I am not familiar with this, but it appears to be an HMI. Wonderware does have OPC connectivity so you should be able to connect this to Simulink and Soft PLC. If you want to go into this in more depth, I can put you in touch with a local resource.
