Connection problem with OPC XML

I'm trying to establish connection between an MP277 OPC XML Server and an OPC DA Client installed on WinXP Professional PC. Unfortunately, I obtained different results. First, I tried on my PC where I've also installed developement software (wincc flexible, step 7, etc. etc.) and I got the data from OPC Server. Second, I tried on a computer where I've installed only OPC XML Gateway and some OPC Client DA, but in this cases I wasn't unable to read data even to browse OPC Item. I've tried also to specify directly item path without browsing OPC but I can't got any good value.
How can I solve this communication problem? Is there any additional software to install or any additional windows settings to be implemented?

I am having the exact same problem. If a PC has TIA Portal software package (does not matter which version), the OPC comms to XML server on HMI via XML gateway works fine. If the PC has no TIA Portal package (just XML gateway), it cannot browse tags on the HMI.

Did you manage the find the solution? I am quite desperate...

I was able to solve the issue installing OPC-XML Gateway always with installation CD/DVD starting from the main setup and then unchecking everything except the gateway (see attachement). I mean the setup used to install TIA or WINCCFlexible, the one suggested with autorun.

Otherwise, If I launch setup located inside the gateway folder (..\InstData\OPCXMLGateway\Setup\Setup.exe) on a PC without TIA or Flexible then the installation result uncomplete and unusable. I supposed, that with previous mode there is some additional settings on registry or something else mandatory.
