Connectionproblems with SIMATIC IOT 2040

Hello Siemens Forum!

We are trying to make use of a SIMATIC IOT2040  by means of Port X1P1 via PuTTy. We have followed the instructions in SIMATIC_IOT2000_Setting_up_V2.1.1 manual  up to table 3-4 item 3 but cannot proceed further.

We also tried the tips in the below forums.

We tried the dynamic via X2P1 via Wireshark, and still there was no response following

Please note that when we are plugin the MicroUSB (X61) to any PC the PC does not find/recognize the IOT.

How can we get this device to communicate ?

Our next idea is to reset the IOT to factory settings, but that seems complicated. If we understand it correctly we have to create a bootable Linux SD Card , with Yocto and Poky!? But that all is something new to us where we arent really sure what to do.

attached is a list what we already tried to fix that problem.

PS: A list what i already tried.. after thinking about all i think its not correct booting

• SD – Card(San Disk 32 GB micro HC1) : Checked for being compatible (https://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards)
  • Delete old Patitions
  • Format
    • Formats tried: FAT, NTFL
  • Installed Example Disk Image with Win32DiskInstaller
• No recognize of the PC
  • No PopUp ( that something was plugged it )
• Not found in Device Manager ( USB Connection as well as the Network connection)
• Driver installed Manually
• Tested also with win10 ( but recognize when Network was plugged it)

• Connection
• MicroUSB to USB – no response
• Connection / no response from the X1P1 LAN ( fixed IP: 192.168.200.1)
  • ->> WinShark found fixed IP 192.168.200.255)
• SAME Subnet
• Cmd_exe as well as PuTTy doesn’t work.
• X2P1 LAN (DHCP) Dynamic address
  • Figured out IP with Winsharkàtry to ping / Putty
  • Doesn’t work with fixed PC IP as well as with a dynamic
  • Information from WInsharkàTell PC who 192.168.200.1 is (IOT)
• BUT
  Power LED, SD LED, USB LED working as they should
• Network LAN LEDs are blinking and responding correctly
• Cmd ping message --> Host unreachable --> But not lost!

do you have a SIMATIC IOT2040 or a MindConnect IOT2040 (printed on the front)? Which image did you use? BTW, the MindConnect IOT2040 does not work with image v2.2.0 (no connection ;) ).

hm, this hardware should work if you follow the description. Maybe there is something blocked at your PC...

Here is an updated description. Did you have seen this? 

I would recommend to follow the mentioned description again and first just try a ping. This is the minimum that should work.

 Tried... didnt work.

"Destination Host unreachable"... 

I think its a Boot problem... but i`ve did everything exact like in all tutorials or guides..

I'm not so familar with it but at start time, a green LED should flicker for a while to display the boot process...

Have you checked the LAN cable and maybe tried a connection/ping with the same hardware to a different destination (maybe a second PC)?

When it boots Up, pwr LED is on, then USB LED goes on and then the SD Card is for maybe half of a second flickering...

Yes, i am alway trying with two PC. One is WIN7 and the other one is WIN10.

Half a second? I think the micro-SD card is not plugged in correctly, because the SD LED blinks for around 2 minutes before the IOT is fully booted. Make sure the SD card is making contact to the PCB... If this doesnt help, either the SD Card or the IOT device is defective.

 Fe.. thank you for this Message, you gave me the right hint.

Problem solved:

I started the IOT and pressed the SD Card with my fingers on the pins and it works..
Then i checked the hole holder again. It turns out the two pins are not 100% in the right angle.. but in a way, that you will not see it, when you are not explicit searching for it.

So the IOT is kind of defect
