Hello Chetan2490 Practically every DC Motor can also be used as a Generator. Here is a very simplified description : Basically, if you excite the DC Motor Field and apply Voltage to its Armature, it will start rotating as a motor ( and also rotate the load copupled to it ), The Speed is proportional to the Armature Voltage upto Base Speed and thereafter if the Motor is designed for field weakening then you can increase the speed further by reducing the field current ( This is however not a linear but a Parabolic type of charactristic. ). On the other hand, if you if you excite the Fieldand couple the same motor to a prime mover ( an engine, turbine, a mechanical flywheelor another motor ), then it will act as a generator. Armature voltage will be proportional to the speed at which it is being rotated. Hope this helps Cheers Navnag |
