Ayman, I know that you can hook up to an ABB drive either trough Profibus or Serial. That should be possible with Soft Starter as well. Soft Starters usually have proper digital inputs to start and stop them. If that is all you are going to do, you better go with digital signals, unless you are looking for more info which requires serial communication. Regards, Behnam www.sigmaprocess.ca/blog |

Ayman, You should definitely be able to operate it through Digital signals. For communication on profibus, you need to check with ABB and see if you can add a profibus board like the ABB drives which let you get info from the Soft Starter. Regards, Behnam www.sigmaprcess.ca/blog |

Hello Ayman; I do not know of any ABB user's forum, such as we have here. But wherever I have worked with ABB there have been very knowledgeable local service technicians and engineers who could provide quick answers upon request. Where are you located? If you open the ABB.com homepage, you can select any country where they have facilities and retrieve contact and supportinformation. This for example is the ABB website from Egypt: http://www.eg.abb.com/ Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Ayman, If you can't have them simultaneously. Wire the push buttons or any other external signal to PLC input. Wire PLC output to the Soft Starter (those which can start and stop it). You receive the inputs and control the Soft Starter via profibus all the time. You don't pass signals on the outputs unless you select failure on the Profibus communication.
