CP443 failed

Hello everyone,

We are using SIMENS S7-400H systems in our thermal power station. In coal handling system we have the following configuration..

Two redundant racks (Rack0&1) each having:

Power supply - CPU414-4H - CP443 - CP443

One of the CP443 in Rack0 (Rack0 CPU is in master mode) has no LED indication. Is the module completely faulty ?

The two CP443 modules are for redundant purpose. Now only one module is working.

Do I need to change the hardware configuration for replacing the faulty CP443. ? 

Any advise on how to change faulty module would be highly appreciated.

I don´t think that anyone here can say that the CP is defective. Check if the power supply is present. If yes, and the module doesn´t do anything, I would call my Siemens representive to change it.

If you need to change the HW-config depends on which module you get for replacement. If it is the same, there is no need to change anything in HW-config. If you get a successor, have a look in the delivery release of the new one. Normally you find compatibility statements to predecessor in there.

did you check the diagnostig buffer od PLC / CP or did you go online on HW-Konfig - Any informations?

I checked module information in SIMATIC manager. It says "module not found" ... power supply is through backplane. So I don't think it's the issue.

I checked in hardware configuration. The Mac address is entered in properties. The spare I have is the exact same version but Mac Id is different.

MAC-Adress have to be different. 

see the Wikipedia entry about it. 

As I remember it is possible to load an other MAC adress to the modules.

There is no need to change it, but I would change it in the project and load the configuration in CP.

When the MLFB/order no. and the FW are the same you don´t have to change anything else in HW-config.

As per your first post, you have 2 numbers of CP443 in each rack. 

So total of 2+2=4 CP443. 

In one , none of the LED are on. You can swap this CP with Red Rack's CP and confirm is it problem with module or back plane easily.

I don´t know a way to measure the backplane voltage easily. On the S7-400 CPU or some CP´s you normally have the 5V-LED, that indicates if the backplane bus is ok.

That is ok.

But in some case we cannot identify if back-plane is having some issue or module is having issue..
