CP5611 on PC communication to S7-315 over profibus

DUMLE Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hi everybody, I am completely new to profibus and all Siemens automation systems! And now I have to develop software using C#.NET or VB.NET to do communication between CP5611 (which is placed in PC) to S7-315 PLC. I need to use S7 protocol, but I dont whant to use OPC server!!!! Are there any manuals or documentation on how to do this?? Thanks in advance,

The lib and h file comes with SIMATIC NET. Unfortunatly all the calls are nativeexports from s732.dll, you have to figure outthe marshal stuff to your managed code. Good look! Dec

What I don't understand is how I can get dev_name if it's not a out or ref parameter. In the document mn_s7-api_76.pdf in the explanation about s7_get_device it says: int32 s7_get_device( ord16 index, /* In call / ord16 number_ptr, /* Returned / char dev_name /* Returned */ ) How can I get this to return the dev_name? This is also the same for s7_get_vfd. I guess I need some further explanation.

I guess I need some further explanation. Although this forum addresses PLCNetworking questions& issues I will try to answer your C# question. A String is marshal from C# to native as ref anyway (pointer)and in addition you have to specify CharSet=CharSet.XX. You have to allocate the string before call native functioneither using StringBuilder or String .ctor at size S7_MAX_NAMLEN + 1 (see my previous post). s732.dll expect a buffer large enough to place the dev_name when you call in a loop from 0 to number_ptr-1 Dec
